Just trying to do my part in getting conversation flowing. Let's try some Top 10 lists. About anything. Comics. Sports. Video Games. Subgenres. Movies. TV. TV Characters. ANYTHING. Because I'm on a sports kick right now, I'll start:
TOP TEN BEST SPORTING EVENTS IN THE WORLD
10. Copa Del Rey (Spanish Club Football)
-The largest sporting event knockout tournament in Spain (maybe Europe, which qualifies the world) is the Copa Del Rey, the Cup of Kings. Generally ending in a clash between bitter rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Copa Del Rey features some of the greatest Club Football teams in the world going head-to-head, and every now and then an up-and-comer like Atletico Madrid or Valencia will find themselves hoisting the trophy at the end of the day.
9. NCAA March Madness (College Basketball)
-One of the most inclusive sporting events in the world, the NCAA College Basketball March Madness features a 64-team single-elimination tournament capable of the greatest upsets (Wisconsin over Kentucky) in the hsitory of sports. It's where Cinderella reigns supreme!
8. College Football Playoffs (College Football)
-A very new tournament, a 4-team, single-elimination tournament pits the four best college programs against each other, giving the sporting world another upset-ridden journey, mostly in the likes of the Inagural Champions, Ohio State Buckeyes. This could move up higher in coming years, but after year one, it was a riveting contest I can't wait to watch again.
7. MLS Cup (Major League Soccer)
-Not even a thought in most American's mind is the Major League Soccer Cup, where the top ten teams in the nation go head to head in a very complex tournament using things like "Away Goals" and "Home-and-away series". For American Football Fans, it might look intimidating, but with half the League allowed into the playoffs, the MLS Cup is ripe for upsets, but also allows the best in the League to win from time to time. Look no further than the LA Galaxy riding hot off their 5th MLS Cup title. And another exciting season just getting started.
6. World Series (Major League Baseball)
-I'm not a big fan of a Series deciding a champion. I like single events. I think most people do, and that's why most sporting events end in a single game, not a Best-of-7. But, for what the Fall Classic is, it is a can't-miss spectacle putting the San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals against each other in riveting games. Plus, occassionally Kansas City gets a swing at it too.
5. Autralian Rules Football Grand Final (Australian Football League)
-The culmination of a single season of one of the world'smost violent sports, the Grand Final is contested at the end of an 8-team, single-elimintion playoff including, but not limited to, series violence. Series, go watch Australian Football. Rugby looks stupid compared.
4. Rugby World Cup (Rugby World)
-Did you guys know that this is even a thing? Look it up, I promise it is real. It's right up there with IFAF's American Rules Football World Cup, and the Cricket World Cup. Either way, it's a game played on a world stage putting the best of the best at what they do against each other. I wouldn't watch it, but hundreds of millions do. For country and brother, right?
3. Champions' Cup (UEFA Club Football)
-We are in the TOP THREE. The Champions' Cup is the collection of every European nation's best teams (and Liverpool) in an exciting battle to the top, for a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup. Claim the best in the Europe, and then the best in the WORLD. A grueling Round of 32 Group Stage is followed by knockouts and then, finally, the Champions' Cup Final. Exciting matchups could be anywhere from an El Classico to a battle between Manchester United and Bayern Munich. Everything is on the line as one of the world's most-watched events.
2. Super Bowl/NFL Playoffs (National Football League)
-The culmination of one of the most grueling sports, right up there with Autralian Football and lightyears ahead of Rugby, the NFL Playoffs only allow the best six teams from each conference in a three-week tournament to decide the Conference Champions, only to head out to the Super Bowl and prove yourself as the best. Everyone has a chance in the NFL, based on your system, your players and your coach, the NFL is the ultimate Cinderella Story heaven. Let's go Cowboys.
1. FIFA World Cup (FIFA International Soccer)
-The ultimate sporting event, bringing together the best in the world at sports, this last year putting the Nation of Germany against the almighty power of Lionel Messi, and Messi almost won out. It was not to be. With some of the greatest games ever played (see 1982 Game of the Century) the World Cup is every athlete's dream. For country, for honor, and for glory.
